Rose Monday in pictures: Photos show Germany’s controversial satirical floats parade



Widely known as the one event not to be missed during Carnival festivities, the floats draw huge crowds. Thousands of costumed revellers gathered together to celebrate the religious Christian holiday which falls before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent for many Christians.
The floats can carry figures of up to seven metres and often represent recent taboo subjects or events in a satirical way.
