Rising prison deaths spark inquiry calls



Killings ‘no surprise’ after cuts, say governors
PRISON governors demanded a public inquiry yesterday into the rising toll of deaths and injuries in Britain’s jails, following the killing of an inmate at Pentonville prison in north London.
Two other inmates were seriously injured in the incident at Pentonville and are in a critical condition, while two more have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The Prison Governors Association (PGA) said government cuts to staff and resources meant that the “tragedy” was “no massive surprise.”
