Region's knowledge economy grows to its largest size in six years

The knowledge economy in Yorkshire and the Humber has grown to its largest size in six years.
The knowledge economy is one in which growth is dependent on the quantity, quality, and accessibility of the information available, rather than the means of production.
There were 14,250 active businesses in 2014, that were classified as part of the knowledge economy, up 7 per cent from 2013, and the highest number since at least 2009.
There were 2,100 business births in these categories in 2014, down 5 per cent, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
