Reception to mark end of Minorca open cast coal mine



A reception marking the official end of an open cast mine will be held at the weekend.
Residents, community groups and local politicians will join mining representatives at the Minorca open cast mine, which has seen more than 1.5 million tonnes of coal excavated from a site outside Measham in the past four years.
Restoration work is now under way, with the site scheduled to be returned to agricultural land by the end of the year – six months ahead of schedule.
