Rare lightning SPRITES sparked by Hurricane Matthew light up sky in apocalyptic blood red
 

The Category 5 storm produced the sprites, a rare phenomena - near Aruba and Colombia. 
The weak bursts of energy happened above an active thunderstorm, according to the American Meteorological Society. 
Incredible footage reported on Fox News shows the sprites light up the skies with a strange red halo in an almost apocalyptic scene. 
The sprites are extremely difficult to capture on camera and last only milliseconds. 
Hurricane Matthew is heading for Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti and warnings are still in place. 
The storm is currently sustaining winds of 145mph.
