Rape and sexual assault victims encouraged to come forward as more cases are being prosecuted



Victims of rape and sexual assault are being encouraged to come forward - and assured more cases are being brought before the courts.
The Rape Monitoring Group – which draws together figures from police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Ministry of Justice – found the Leicestershire force is referring more cases to the CPS – up from 43 cases in 2011/12 to 64 in 2015/16.
The percentage of referrals where charges are brought was 63 per cent, ahead of the national average of 57 per cent.
