Quirky fashion chain Ted Baker enjoys a 20% jump in profits - as the rest of the high street still struggles 



High-end fashion chain Ted Baker enjoyed a 20.5 per cent leap in profits in its first half, shrugging off turbulent trading conditions in the clothing sector. 
The quirky fashion retailer's pretax profits jumped to £21.5million in the six months to August 13 as its sales climbed 13.6 per cent, with online sales up 29.7 per cent.
The strong results came on the same day as the British Retail Consortium said non-food sales growth remained sluggish in the three months to September, and as online and catalogue clothing retailer N Brown posted a dip in first half profits.
