PSOE leader loses confidence vote

SPANISH Socialist Party (PSOE) leader Pedro Sanchez stepped down at the weekend after losing a vote of confidence by his party’s federal committee.
After more than 10 hours of debate, Mr Sanchez was defeated 132-107 in the 295-member committee, following criticism of him by former leader Felipe Gonzalez.
Mr Sanchez had led the PSOE, alongside the Podemos and United Left alliance, in blocking conservative Mariano Rajoy of the rival People’s Party (PP) from operating a minority government.
