High-street bargain store chain Poundland has been handed one of the biggest ever retail food safety fines after one of its stores was plagued by a mouse infestation.
Poundland was fined £100,000 after health inspectors forced the retailer to shut one of its busiest stores when they discovered a widespread and uncontrolled rodent infestation.
Mouse droppings and evidence of urine were found on food shelves alongside gnawed and soiled packets of biscuits, nuts, sweets and popcorn.
