Pound surges against the euro and dollar: Sterling fights back on currency markets LIVE
 

Sterling fell 2.3 cents yesterday to close at 1.2115 against the dollar. The pound also fell by 1.3 cents against the Euro, to close at 1.0973.
The fall in the value of sterling has been triggered by fears about the British economy since the vote to leave the EU. The pound has now fallen by 19 per cent against the dollar since the June 23 referendum and is trading on the currency markets at lows not seen since 1985.
Sterling is still higher than its all-time low of $1.052 on March 1 1985.
