Pound steadies as PM confirms there will be a Commons debate before triggering Brexit



The pound has steadied amid relief over Prime Minister Theresa May's plans to allow a Commons debate on her Brexit strategy before triggering Article 50.
Mrs May has given Tory MPs permission to back a Labour call for Parliament to be able to 'properly scrutinise' her plans before the formal exit process begins in an apparent attempt to see off a backbench rebellion. 
Crucially though she has not promised to allow MPs a formal vote on the government's negotiating strategy.  Her spokeswoman said: 'There will not be a vote on triggering Article 50.'
