Philip Hammond announces end of Help to Buy housing scheme
 

The Help to Buy mortgage guarantee will shut to new loans on December 31, as planned when it was launched three years ago, after Mr Hammond said it had achieved its aim.
Many will see it as another example of Theresa May distancing herself from the last government, particularly from pet projects of sacked Chancellor George Osborne, although other Help to Buy programmes will continue.
The mortgage guarantee is for people who cannot raise big enough deposits to secure affordable mortgages on properties worth up to £600,000.
