PHIL MICKELSON revealed he almost benched himself from America’s sizzling start to the Ryder Cup because he has never felt more pressure.
The USA stalwart admits he felt a huge expectation to perform because he’d led the rebellion against 2014 captain Tom Watson that prompted the creation of a task force to revamp their whole team set-up.
But Mickelson resisted the temptation to take himself out of the firing line on the first morning - and went on to play his part in a remarkable 4-0 whitewash of the Europeans in the foursomes session.
