PART OF F1 HISTORY: Track where Michael Schumacher learnt his craft to be shut down
 

The Erftlandring kart circuit in Kerpen, near Cologne in northern Germany, will be closed in 2020 so a nearby lignite mine can expand its operations.
Hopes of rebuilding the track elsewhere appear to have been dashed and a petition is now being launched to try to preserve this piece of motorsport history.
The Erftlandring featured heavily in the early careers of four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Schumacher's younger brother Ralph.
