Our landline stopped working so I can't contact my wife while I'm in hospital. Why won't TalkTalk fix it?

I am currently recovering in hospital and the only way my wife, aged 73, can communicate with me and the rest of the family is our landline, which hasn't been working for the past three weeks.
TalkTalk provides our phone line, but isn't able to tell us when it will be fixed and currently it's impossible to make outgoing calls, and any incoming calls are going straight to voicemail.
I've been in hospital for five months now for Guillain-Barré syndrome and as the landline is our main source of contact it's the only way I can communicate with my wife and she can speak to our family.
