Opinion: Premiership referee appointment process needs to ensure fairness to all clubs
 

Premiership Rugby has announced that 31-year-old Matt Carley will referee the table-top clash between Saracens and Wasps on Sunday. This means the biggest game of the season so far has not been awarded to England’s leading referee Wayne Barnes, or his two most experienced colleagues Greg Garner and JP Doyle.
Carley is a fast-developing official, who received some European appointments last season, and in time looks set to reach the summit of the English game.
