La Forza del Destino
Millennium Centre, Cardiff WELSH National Opera’s spring season kicks off with a fine rendition of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. The 19th century Italian composer wrote one of the great operatic overtures and there's an auspicious start to the evening as conductor Carlo Rizzi draws a magnificent rendition of it from the orchestra.
As it plays, the tragic events about to unfold are captured in an onscreen projection as the dreaming Donna Leonora sleeps onstage. She's awakened by a gun firing into a blood-red mist.
