Oktoberfest sex crimes rise despite worst turnout since 9/11 as terror fears grip Germany
 

The turnout to the Munich event was the lowest since the 9/11 attacks, with event organisers reintroducing bag checks for festival goers to try and combat terror.
But despite fewer revellers and tighter security, the number of sex crimes at the festival surged – up to 31 from 21 last year.
A specialist safety checkpoint for vulnerable female festival-goers led by the group ‘safer Wiesn for Girls and Women’ also witnessed an increase in people asking for help.
In total 215 women visited the checkpoint to ask for help, with 18 complaining of experiencing violence at the event.
