Oil and gas firm donation to Scots Tory election candidate sparks call for law change
 

An SNP MP is demanding a change in the law after a major oil and gas firm effectively funnelled public money to a Tory election candidate.
Balmoral Offshore Engineering received a £1million grant from Scottish Enterprise in May to help open a centre of excellence for testing new technology.
But the next month their parent company, Balmoral Comtec, donated £5000 to Tory election candidate Ross Thomson. The 29-year-old was ultimately successful in the Aberdeen South seat.
Now Edinburgh East MP Tommy Sheppard is calling for action to make the process more “fair, transparent and accountable”.... read more
