Nottingham's Food Sleuth visits Gannets in Newark

I've never warmed to the name Gannets. It puts you in mind of a ravenous sea bird ingesting a fish twice the thickness of its throat.
But that's not the way they eat in Newark nowadays, the smartened-up market town having spawned a rash of delis and bistros that would appeal even to West Bridgford types.

In fairness, Gannets has been around since the days when Kirrage's of Chain Lane was your only bet for a decent evening meal; when Newark's idea of evening entertainment was a beer-fuelled rumble outside the Bowling Green.
