North Wales loses 450 hospital beds as care homes' boss demands 'emergency summit' to tackle crisis
 

A leading care campaigner has called for an “emergency summit” to integrate health and social care in the wake of almost 450 hospital bed losses over the last six years.
Mario Kreft warns of a looming winter “catastrophe” as available beds across the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board area have declined with the closure of cottage hospitals and wards in Flint, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Rhyl.
While some units saw a modest increase in beds, there was a net loss of 444 in community and mental health units between 2009 and 2016, according to figures provided by Stats Wales.
