North Wales councils merger SCRAPPED by Welsh Government
 

Plans that would see Wales’ 22 councils reduced to as few as eight or nine have been scrapped by the Welsh Government .
In the Senedd this afternoon the Local Government Secretary Mark Drakeford set out “a new way forward” which would instead see closer collaboration between neighbouring councils and key services delivered regionally.
The region’s six local authorities of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire , Flintshire and Wrexham , faced being merged into just two or three as part of a Wales-wide shake-up put forward by then-Local Government Minister, Leighton Andrews.
