NHL player somehow escapes punishment after deliberately smashing rival’s head into boards
 

The clip shows Vancouver Canucks youngster Jake Virtanen, dressed in the blue jersey, chasing Carolina Hurricanes winger Joakim Nordström for the puck.
Virtanen checks Nordström, sending him crashing to the floor toward the boards as the puck escapes down the ice.
But replays showed 20-year-old Virtanen grab Nordström’s head, ramming it into the boarding in a dangerous play that left his rival prone on the ice for a number of seconds.
However, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety decided that the hit was legal, meaning Virtanen looks to have escaped punishment.
