Ex-Newcastle coach Terry McDermott has revealed the reason they sold James Milner to Aston Villa in 2008 was because they wanted to buy Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger.
McDermott confirmed a long-standing belief that Newcastle begrudgingly sold Milner, but insisted the club and Kevin Keegan believed they could use the money to land an even bigger player who is currently at Manchester United.
