Newcastle Eagles gets planning permission for purpose built basketball arena
 

Newcastle Eagles are closer to swooping into a home of their own with Newcastle City Council approving the basketball club’s latest application for a purpose built arena in Elswick.
Councillors sitting on the city’s planning committee unanimously approved the trophy-laden club’s application for a 2,800 seat arena off Scotswood Road, where the Riverside Dene - Cruddas Park - tower blocks stood until 2012.
The new stadium is a chance for the Eagles to have their own home after stints at Newcastle Arena and Northumbria University’s Sports Central.
