Newcastle Allotment and Garden Fete attracts thousands as it makes city centre debut



MORE than 2,000 people visited a top horticultural show as it made its debut at a city centre park venue.
The 15th Newcastle Allotment and Garden Fete, which had previously been based at the Civic Centre and Westgate Centre for Sport, switched to Leazes Park as part of a day of family activities on Sunday.
The show attracted over 800 entries, with more than 30 allotment associations from the city represented.
Schools and playgroups also took part in an environmental competition to create a model from recyclable materials to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Mayoralty of Newcastle.
