New Runcorn bridge set to open this weekend



The new Mersey Gateway bridge between Runcorn and Widnes looks set to open this weekend.
The ECHO understands the £600m scheme could finally open to traffic on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
On the chosen day the bridge will open at midnight.
Hours before, there will be a spectacular fireworks display on the bridge deck that will be visible from both banks of the river.
Bosses at builder Merseylink have yet to confirm the official opening date.
More than 1,000 workers are now carrying out the final works on the bridge so it can open to the public.
