Murderer Ray Gilbert released from prison 36 years after notorious Toxteth killing
 

Convicted murderer Ray Gilbert has reportedly been released from prison - 36 years after being jailed over one of Merseyside’s most notorious killings.
Gilbert was locked up over the 1981 murder of Toxteth bookmaker John Suffield, who was stabbed 19 times at the Coral Racing shop where he worked in Lodge Lane.
The 56-year-old was ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years but served more three decades behind bars because of his refusal to admit his wrongdoing.
A second man, John Kamara, served more than 19 years in prison over the murder before being exonerated in 2000.
