More parents fined for letting their kids miss school



Parents in Leicestershire and Rutland were fined a total of £250,470 in the past academic year for allowing their children to miss school.
The fines cover both truancy and parents taking their children on holiday in term time without permission.
According to new figures, Leicester City Council handed out 2,984 of the £60 fines in the past academic year – a total of £179,040. A further 117 were imposed, then withdrawn after the parents appealed.
