Moeen Ali provided the perfect conclusion to The Oval’s 100th Test by taking the first hat-trick by an England spinner for nearly 80 years.
Joe Root’s team lead South Africa 2-1 with only Friday’s final game at Old Trafford to come after Moeen removed opener Dean Elgar for 136 and tailenders Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel, both first ball, to wrap up a crushing 239-run victory.
