It should be a match made in Heaven. A best-selling book by Ransome Riggs about strange kids with odd powers should be right in the director's Gothic wheelhouse.
However many critics have focussed on Burton's increasingly one-note style, with some clearly weary of it and others suggesting that this film neede a little more bite. There has been praise for Jane Golman's script and Eva Green as the titular character, although we are mainly waiting to see Judi Dench wielding a crossbow.
