Ministers are confident the 12-sided £1 coin has baffled forgers



Ministers are confident the new £1 coin is living up to its “most secure coin in the world” billing and say there is little evidence the new pound can be faked.
The 12-sided coin has been in circulation since March 28 and there are now more of them in British purses and wallets than the old style round pound, which is being phased out ahead of losing its legal tender status on October 15.
One reason the round pound is being replaced is to combat forgery, with an estimated 3% of the old coins believed to be counterfeit.
