Michael O'Neill brushes aside talk of replacing Gordon Strachan... but the Northern Ireland boss has shown many signs of why he could be the right man



Anxious eyes are being cast eastwards from Belfast. In the wake of Scotland’s defeat at Wembley, Michael O’Neill’s name has been prominent on pretty much every post-Gordon Strachan wish-list.
Inevitably, this clamour from across the Irish Sea reached O’Neill’s ears as he met the media prior to Northern Ireland’s friendly against Croatia.
Insisting he hadn’t given the speculation a ‘second thought’, O’Neill also spoke of a ‘huge amount of respect’ for Strachan, under whom he played at Coventry City.
