Merseyside top cop 'made false statement to cover his back' after driver arrest
 

A high-flying Merseyside Police chief presented false statements to cover his back after a dispute with a driver, a court heard.
Prosecutors claim Michael Cloherty, a former area commander for Knowsley , created a series of misleading accounts after arresting Jack Beecham following a confrontation in Birkenhead.
A trial today opened against the 51-year-old, who denies committing misconduct in public office, perjury and perverting the course of justice.
