Meet the North East inspector who swapped Forth Banks for Baton Rouge to help flood relief
 

He might be more used to keeping the streets of the North East safe but one Newcastle cop has been helping as part of a major relief effort.
Inspector Adrian Smiles, vice chairman of the Northumbria Police Federation, was one of a team of seven volunteers - predominantly military veterans - from disaster relief charity Team Rubicon UK dispatched to Baton Rouge, in Lousiana in the United States, following the catastrophic storms that damaged homes and businesses in August this year.
More than a dozen lives were tragically lost and 140,000 homes were affected in the flood.
