The Spaniard is the Blues’ first choice to succeed Antonio Conte in the dugout at Stamford Bridge.
Ex-Barcelona boss Enrique is out of work although remains reluctant to come in before the end of the season.
As a result, Starsport understands Conte is safe in his role until the summer, but he is expected to then go.
Conte, who has endured a difficult relationship with Chelsea chiefs and Roman Abramovich despite winning the title last term, is the club’s highest paid manager in their history.
