MARKET REPORT: FTSE hits 16-month high as City gets Brexit pledge from Theresa May to begin withdrawal by end of March



Investors were in a buying mood yesterday as the Government offered some clarity on Britain's future outside the European Union.
Prime Minister Theresa May said she would kick-off the two-year process of withdrawal by the end of March and pledged to seek the best deal possible for British businesses.
Sterling dropped on the timetable, hitting a three-year low against the euro and its lowest point against the dollar since July.
But the fall did little to dent confidence on a brisk day's trading which saw the FTSE 100 climb 1.22 per cent or 84.19 points to a 16-month high of 6983.52.
