Maria Sharapova drugs ban explained: Why is she back at the US Open and what is meldonium?
 

The Russian returned to competitive tennis in April after serving a 15-month ban for testing positive for the banned substance meldonium, also known as mildronate.
She was initially given a two-year suspension but had it reduced to 15 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on appeal.
Now she is in the process of working her way back up the rankings - although because she is still only No 146 in the world, she is still relying on wildcard entries to the biggest tournaments.
