Man charged after couple allegedly tied up and robbed in their own home

A man has been charged after a couple were allegedly tied up in their own home by a burglar brandishing a meat cleaver.
Kevin Hardwick, of Frederick Street, Coundon has been charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, no insurance, possession of cannabis and driving whilst disqualified.
The 38-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
It is alleged that a man smashed his way into his victims’ home in Bishop Auckland through a window and tied up a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s.
