Man caught on camera hitting dog says he was doing it for the good of the animal



A pet owner who was caught on camera appearing to beat his dog has said he was just trying to protect the animal from traffic.
The footage appears to show a man hitting a Staffordshire Bull Terrier known as Frank.
The M.E.N. has tracked down the owner, Jason Smart, who insisted he had been trying to protect the dog who had ‘nearly been run over’ by passing traffic.
When our reporter visited Mr Smart’s home in Rochdale, he declined to comment in detail although he confirmed his pet had now been taken away by the RSPCA as a result of the footage being published on the internet.
