Major road closed after crash near school as air ambulance called to scene
 

A major road was closed in both directions this morning after a serious crash close to a school caused the air ambulance to be called.
The collision on Southport Road and its junction at Gorsuch Lane, close to to Scarisbrick Hall School, took place just before 8.30am.
A full closure of the route was put in place at 9.25am to allow the air ambulance to reach the incident. It re-opened at approximately 10.15am.
Police say two cars, a white Toyota and black Nissan Juke, collided leaving two people trapped.
