Lysaght's works man gets his honour from the Queen



A WELL-KNOWN manager from the Scunthorpe steel industry went to Buckingham Palace on October 18, 1961 to receive the MBE from the Queen.
Bill Branston had just retired from Lysaght's works after spending 42 years in the blastfurnace department he had joined not long after the end of the First World War.
Perhaps the biggest compliment of many came from a colleague who said: "You never worked under Bill Branston, but you did work with him."
