Lollipop man facing the axe is backed by petition signed by hundreds of parents



He has safely seen hundreds of children across the road on their way to school.
But “waving lollipop man” David Hall faces losing his job as the latest round of Newcastle City Council cutbacks were announced.
Now, hundreds of angry parents have launched a petition in a desperate effort to save the 71-year-old’s job.
David has become a local legend for his cheery waves to passing cars at Two Ball Lonnen, opposite Cedar Road, Fenham for five years.
The authority announced proposals this week that could see all but two of the city’s school crossing patrols cut, saving £212,000.
