Local Ukip councillors call for unity after party leader Diane James quits



LOCAL Ukip councillors have called for the party to unite after reacting in "shock" at party leader Diane James' resignation less than three weeks after her election.
The 56-year-old successor to Nigel Farage quit as leader of the party after just 18 days in charge late last night, citing 'personal reasons' and dwindling support for her decision to step down.
When she took over, after claiming 46 per cent of the votes in the Eurosceptic party's leadership election last month, Diane James promised to 'wipe the slate clean' and called for a fresh start for the party.
