SCUNTHORPE-born Andrew Cartlidge was one of the people who paid money to Mark Beighton at Lincs Woodlines.
The partner of a wealth management firm in London paid Mr Beighton a 75 per cent deposit for his order on January 28 and has potentially lost £5,000.
He said: "It is sad when businesses are going awry, but they were lying to people about why their orders were not fulfilled.
"One of my partners who placed an order for £18,000 would have lost that sum, had her credit card company not subsequently compensated her.
