Last month was the warmest September in 136 years – and this year will be the hottest ever



Last month was the warmest September since records began in 1880, according to scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York.
It follows a year where 11 of the past 12 consecutive months dating back to October 2015 have set new monthly high-temperature records.
June has been ‘demoted’ after new data from Antarctica came in – but it’s still the third-hottest in the past 136 years.
It was an unusually hot month in much of Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
