Landmark ruling could affect all Mersey Gateway fine appeals



A driver who said he did not see “clear signage on how to pay” the Mersey Gateway toll has WON an appeal against his fine - in a landmark ruling.
Robert Tollman received a £20 fine after using the bridge to travel from St Helens to South Wales on October 16.
The high school teacher said it was his first time using the bridge and he expected to pay the £2 crossing fee at a toll booth, after seeing signs stating ‘toll booths ahead’.
However when he found no booths, he believed they had not yet been set up, due to the bridge having only been opened two days prior.
