Lack of black and Asian senior officers in West Midlands Police is cause for worry, says force chief
 

The problem has arisen in part from a ban on recruitment over the past five years and partly because of a critical number of ethnic minority officers who are due to retire in the near future.
Chief Constable David Thompson raised his concerns at a meeting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the West Midlands Black and Asian Police Association in Birmingham.
And he revealed that of the 8,000 people who had so far expressed an online interest in joining the police since the launch of its current recruitment drive, only one per cent – or 89 – were black.
