Viewed in those terms, it is absolutely stunning. As one of the world's leading opera companies, the ROH has the choice of the many of the world's best young singers and the cast for this Carmen is hugely impressive.
This is not, however, the Carmen we all know and love, but a cut-down version created by Sir Peter Hall in 1981 which proved an excellent choice for the atmospheric setting of Wilton's Music Hall.
