Jose Mourinho: Why I didn’t start Man United captain Wayne Rooney against Zorya Luhansk
 

Rooney was left out of the starting XI by Mourinho for the second match in a row for tonight’s clash at Old Trafford. 
In Rooney’s absence, Zlatan Ibrahimovic started as the lone striker with Juan Mata just behind him. 
And Mourinho has revealed the United captain was only named on the bench because he missed training yesterday.
He told BT Sport: “Yeah. I would play him [tonight if he was fit]. 
“When I started preparing the game after Leicester I was thinking about playing him tonight in the position I think he has to play, which is the position just behind the striker.
